Modus Care acquires Plymouth care provider

Modus Care, a leading provider of specialist care for people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated conditions, has announced that it has acquired Small House Homes in Plymouth, Devon, in a move that will significantly increase Modus' capacity to provide care placements in the South West.

Small House Homes, which currently provides similar care services to Modus, will change its name to Modus Care (Plymouth) Ltd and be directly managed by Modus Care.

The acquisition will add six additional homes to the Modus Care Group's portfolio of property, which currently comprises of nine residential and hospital care facilities. This will bring the total properties in the Modus Care Group to 15, increasing the number of available care placements from 48 to 72.

Modus currently provides services for adults between the ages of 18 and 65 but will now extend its services to include young people aged 13 to 17.

"As the new owners of Small House Homes, Modus Care will be able to share with our colleagues at Modus Care (Plymouth) a wealth of skills and experience of caring for individuals with ASD and associated conditions" commented Tim Raymant, Managing Director of Modus Care. "We have developed a recognised specialism in working with adults and young people, taking them through a carefully planned care pathway leading from hospital to residential facilities. We fully understand and appreciate the benefits of being able to manage an individual's care pathway within one organisation and we're delighted to be expanding our facilities to offer this provision to a greater number of people."

Joining Tim on the Board of Directors at Modus Care (Plymouth) will be Modus Care Directors Deborah Stevenson and Steve Lawson, and an immediate objective for the Board is to ensure that Small House Homes employees are welcomed into the Modus Care Group with minimal disruption. All Modus Care employees are fully trained to provide the best and most consistent care to all Service Users using Positive Response Training Ltd's model, with whom Modus Care works very closely. Positive Response Training provides specialist Positive Behaviour Management training for staff in the sector and a key principle of this British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD)-accredited model is an ethos of inclusion, choice and respect. Modus Care will be ensuring that all Small House Homes care staff are trained and working within the same model, ensuring a smooth integration into the business.

"We view the addition of Modus Care (Plymouth) to our services as a wholly positive move for both existing and future employees and Service Users," added Tim Raymant. "Not only will it add stability to Plymouth operations and the Modus Care Group as a whole, but also create future employment opportunities. We are looking forward to continuing to provide outstanding residential care, but on a larger scale."

In other moves to strengthen its position as a leading specialist care provider for individuals with ASD and associated disorders, Modus Care has recently acquired a new residential unit in Surrey, which will be opening shortly, and re-opened a newly refurbished care home in Exeter, Devon.
