Training Courses
Below are a list of training courses that we offer to all employees at Modus Care and are also available to external candidates. If you wish to see a brief overview of what each course involves, just click on the relevant course title.
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder Awareness This one day course provides an introduction to autistic spectrum disorders. This course is aimed at candidates who are new to ASD.
- Positive Approaches to supporting people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (BILD) This 2 day course explains the concepts of the Autistic Spectrum, the triad of impairment and the role of the senses. It also deals with behavioural characteristics associated with ASD and the possible causes of autism. This detailed course also covers the challenges in relation to communication, social interaction, imagination and interpretation and discusses how effective communication is achieved and how appropriate support can be provided. This fully participative course is aimed at candidates with some experience of ASD.
- Protection of Vulnerable Adults This one day course covers relevant legislation, the nature and types of abuse and neglect and who abuses and why. The course also includes the signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect and covers reporting and whistle blowing. The course aims to raise awareness to the broad issues of abuse within the care of ‘Vulnerable Adults’ and is designed to equip candidates to understand their role in the protection of vulnerable adults from abuse.
- Understanding and Managing Challenging Behaviour This half day awareness course has been designed by behavioural specialists to help new employees understand challenging behaviour and to introduce them to managing challenging behaviour positively and safely. This course can also be used as an annual refresher course.
- Positive Behaviour Management (PRT Ltd)Positive Behavioural Management (PBM) is mandatory for all Modus Care employees. This three day intensive course has both theoretical and practical elements. The techniques learnt during this course enable employees to safely and ethically manage any dangerous and or physically aggressive behaviour presented by clients. PBM has been developed over many years by behavioural specialists and is delivered in-house by our own fully qualified PBM trainers.
- First Aid Awareness This comprehensive one day course is delivered at our training facility near Exeter and covers legislation; priorities, calling for help; burns, breaks, bleeding and bandages and more.
- First Aid at work (HSE approved course) This busy four day course is delivered by St John Ambulance at our training facility near Exeter. The course covers accidents and illness; using a first aid kit; record keeping; treatment of an unconscious casualty; heart attacks; resuscitation; shock; choking; bleeding; burns and scalds; poisoning; fractures; seizures; asthma; severe allergic reaction; eye injuries; low blood sugar and fainting. This course is legally compliant with the current Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981. Upon successful completion of this four day course, first aiders receive certification to allow them to practise for three years after which a re-qualification course becomes necessary.
- Manual Handling Candidates will at the end of this half day course be able to explain the term ‘manual handling’; give examples on how manual handling can cause injury; be able to control manual handling risks and be able to understand the value and purpose of conducting a manual handling assessment. This course is delivered by our fully qualified and CIEH Accredited trainer.
- Health & Safety This detailed one day course includes Health and Safety Law; an introduction to health, safety and welfare at work; the workplace and work equipment, risk assessment; manual handling; hazardous substances; workstation design; working at heights; transport and vehicles and noise and vibration. This course is delivered by our fully qualified and CIEH Accredited trainer.
- Food Handling & HygieneThis one day course includes the legislative framework; food safety hazards, taking and controlling temperatures; cooking, hot holding and re-heating foods; food handling and safe storage; cleaning and more. This course is delivered by our fully qualified and CIEH Accredited trainer.
- Care of Medicines This comprehensive half day course includes storage; disposal; consent; record keeping; administration and preventing and managing errors.
- Mental Health Act Induction & Refresher These half day courses include understanding what the MHA 1983 is for, who it applies to and how it is applied. The sessions also include understanding a patients rights and their right to withhold consent to treatment. Additionally, issues such as next of kin and nearest relative and the law on capacity to consent to medical treatment or social care is discussed. Both of these courses are delivered at our training facility by a professionally qualified Mental Health Act Advisor.
- EpilepsyThis specialist course is delivered off site for employees specifically working with clients with epilepsy.
- NVQ levels 2 to 5 (Care & Management)Modus Care has established links with local and national educational and training establishments to assist in the facilitation of its NVQ programme.
- Fire Awareness From Fire Precautions Regulations and Legislation to coping with a fire safely and evacuation, this one day course is delivered by our fully qualified and CIEH Accredited trainer.
- Infection ControlThis comprehensive half day course includes chain of infection; means of transmission; cleaning; hand washing; disinfection; sterilization and more.
- Assessor’s Award & Internal Verifiers Award Modus Care has established links with local and national educational and training establishments to assist in the facilitation of its A1 and IV Award programme.
- Management TrainingModus Care provides a range of management training including recruitment and selection and supervision and appraisal training.
